We were guests of Dominick Massa, WWL-TV Executive Producer, and Producer of the annual Chefs' Charity event for children of St Michael Special School in New Orleans. The event was founded by my friend Phil Johnson, and Warren LeRuth who vowed to do something for charity after he recovered from an illness. They started Chef's Charity for St Michael's to fulfill Warren's promise.
Every year, for the past forty, a dozen Chefs from the most famous restaurants in New Orleans, volunteer to demonstate the preperation of a special dish to an audience of a thousand people. The audience follows the demonstrations with an annual cook book, followed by a serving of every dish - - donated by the Chefs.
Everything is donated by the Chefs and their restaurants, and every penny earned goes to St Michael' Special School and their children.
This year, the New Orleans restaurants were: La Petite Grocery, Restaurant August, Shaya, Compere Lapin, Zea/Semolina, Emeril's, Commander's Palace, Trey Yen, Dooky Chase's, Restaurant R' evolution.
